Understanding Childcare Centers is Childs play
Childcare centers are facilities that provide for supervision, care and education of children below the age of eight. These centers are sometimes referred to as children daycare centers or childcare institutions. These facilities have to be accredited by proper government licensing institution and are closely regulated by such in order to safeguard the interests of children to proper care and education.
Childcare centers are viable options for parents or a parent who do not have an extended family to take care of the children in case of regular or temporary absence, working parent/s or single parents who have limited time to properly supervise the rearing of their children or those who even if they have adequate time, believe that childcare is a better option for the proper rearing of their children.
There are many different types of Childcare centers. This article discusses some of the more popular types of childcare:
First, is the center based childcare. This is the most common type of childcare, and is less expensive than its counterparts, wherein children are brought to a facility which is staffed by adequately trained and license childcare professionals. This type of childcare has the advantage of allowing children early socialization skills since these children are cared for in groups or batches. The best childcare facilities have better facilities, better and regularly trained caregivers, low care giver to children ratio and regular parent facility interaction. The disadvantage of this type of childcare is that a child with special needs may not get proper care and that children are exposed to sickness that they might catch from other children in the facility.
Second, is in-home childcare wherein it is the childcare specialist who goes to the dwelling of the child and takes care of the same. This type of childcare is more expensive since the supervision will be centered on the particular child or children to be cared for. Children with special needs will be expertly cared for and extensively supervised, this also means more feedback for the parents and the same have the option of having greater participation and supervision of their children. This also means that children will be less exposed to sickness since they are not exposed to other children.
A third type of childcare is a cross between the first two types. This is the home based childcare facility wherein a trained childcare specialist allows children into his or her home instead of an actual and dedicated facility. This type of childcare is more personal than center based but less personal than in-home based. This is because the facility is relatively smaller than a center based facility. The advantages of this type are that it affords some interaction and socialization for children and is a more personal approach. However a marked disadvantage is that the facility will not be as good as a dedicated facility and in some cases the care giver may not be properly licensed and/or properly/regularly trained.
In closing, whatever type of childcare is preferred by the parent/parents extensive research, interview, and inspection should be made to the facility and to the care givers. It would also be best to contact the proper authority to verify if the institution and personnel is properly licensed.
