"Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart." ~ Kahlil Gibran
MIL gave us a gift card to her favorite supermarket for Christmas. This place has been raved about around here as well so we checked it out… and were left wondering what all the fuss was about. I think we could have done just as good at the place around the corner.. and saved on gas. Meh.. to each his own I guess
This was during my sophmore year in High School. I became friendly with a girl I will call C. We had a mutual friend, so we had met before, but this was the first year we had a class together. (There was also a guy in our class who was quite a gymnast who went on to star in a couple martial arts shows and was the red and green Power Rangers when they were in costume) We also found out as we started hanging around together that our mothers worked together. Sometime early spring C invited me to a concert with her and our mutual friend. I was excited since I had never been. The concert was Journey with Bryan Adams opening. This was just after Cuts Like a Knife came out and I was a big fan, but I was also a fan of Journey. So I was thrilled…. I think the ticket cost me $15. C’s Dad drove us to Worcester and hung out there while we went to the show. I couldn’t imagine my parents ever doing that. After the concert I became and even bigger Journey fan I had every album they put out and I also started collecting the CD’s of them as they were released. Yeah HUGE fan!
Fast forward to present. SILW/MS’s husband is a musician. He has been in several bands and we have seen him play quite a few times… even once we didn’t realize but that is a whole other story all together! heh! Anyway… He is a talented piano/keyboard player and a pretty good singer. A few months back he told us he had joined a new band. It is a Journ ey tribute band. ANd he is excited and wants us to go see them play… they have some pretty high profile gigs too. I am apprehensive because hello #1 fan over here and no one is going to measure up and I don’t want to have to walk out ya know? Heh! So I try to have an open mind. He gives me a copy of one of their demo CDs. I put it off for quite some time but then decide I will listen. I pop it in and Don’t Stop Believing starts playing… I am impressed…. and then the lead singer starts his part and I am disappointed. Oh god does he suck!
Over the next couple months SILW/MS’s husband talks about the band and how we should go see them and we had excuses why we couldn’t, and they were legitimate excuses too. In the mean time they get a My Space page set up and he emails with that link, plus a link to the band’s website. I decide to try to give them another chance and checked out the videos they had there. They were professionally done since they were shopping for high profile representation. I had to admit that the lead singer had Steve Perry’s look down (plus about 40lbs) and he had the moves, but the voice? Nails on a chalk board. I think this just has to be me because I am biased and I ask a few people for their oppinons and they all agreed with me. He sucks!
Fast forward to present, the band has found their high profile representation who is talking about a big tour, more than the local clubs and Hard Rock Cafe gigs.. first order of business? Replacing the lead singer. Guess we aren’t the only ones who thinks he sucks! I have heard some clips of the guy they got to replace him and he is pretty good. I think I could sit through a show with him and not have to stuff my ears with plugs. I am just going to have to look at it like a sing-a-long or something like that. Heh!
Deion Branch tipped a pass to himself in the end zone for a touchdown. Then the former Super Bowl MVP jogged to the railing of box seats and handed the ball to his wife, who was wearing a jewel-studded top with his jersey number 83 on it.
