I’m looking to build an online family tree for a fictional family I’ve created, and I was hoping some of you would be able to help me find a good website. Unfortunately, this family is a tad bit…odd. See, it’s a royal family…and you know how they are. Here are the things I’ll be needing the family tree software to allow:

Can a website be hosted on a Server without internet connection?
I want to buy a Home Server and upload some videos to it. Then I will design website using vod software like http://www.livewebtv.org/ and host it on that server. Is it possible for my roommate and neigbours to access the videos from the website. Note that the server is not connected to internet. Can I host my site on the Home server? It is just for my neigbours and family.
Yeah, sure. You can use servers for offline purposes too.
What you need is a wireless router with a strong signal to send out the connection. That or a ton of ethernet cable.
Just download Apache though. It’s free and generally regarded as the best server around. And you could probably just put a command line version of linux on an older pc if you’re worried about efficiency issues.
Assuming they’re connected to your offline network, they should be able to access your server through a domain name like letswatchussometv.org or whatever.
In my experience, wireless routers tend to fade out if the target is too far away. Do they live like in the room next door? If so it should work fine. But if there’s a yard and some woods inbetween ya’ll, this may fail.
