This animated delight is based on the fantastic idea that more than a few monsters live in bedrooms – that there is an entire community of them living parallel to humans. But unlike the traditional belief that monsters are around to scare children, many of these monsters are frightened of little kids. John Goodman and Bill Crystal add their voices to this highly-rated film.
‘Finding Nemo’ (2003). This record-breaking animated film follows the journey of Marlin and Nemo, father and son, who become separated and desperately try to find one another again. With Albert Brooks as Marlin’s voice and Ellen DeGeneres as Dory, the regal tang by Marlin’s side, the two search for Nemo while learning along the way. The script and marvelous imagery draw in viewers, making it a top-grossing G-rated film. Both nationally and internationally ‘Finding Nemo’ has become recognized, winning ‘Best Animated Feature’ from the Academy Awards when it was released.
‘Ratatouille’ (2007). When you want something a little different, search the satellite TV listings in Washington for this delightful rat tale. Rats become captivating protagonists in this film, where the young rat Remy aspires to be a top chef in Paris. As a rat, he has to find a way to make it into the human kitchen of a restaurant without being caught. He ends up creating a pact with the garbage boy at the place, secretly cooking from atop the boy’s head. Like ‘Finding Nemo,’ this film was given the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature as well as other prizes.
