IS OCD a sign of a mental illness?
I’ll joke that I have OCD when it comes to certain things and family or friends call me out on it being “weird”. My cousin just read an article about OCD behaviors signaling more serious mental illness and she thought of me.
My primary OCD that aggravates friends & family involves food – -
I admit, I *hate* when a pea rolls into my mashed potatoes and when I was a kid I wouldn’t eat the food on my plate at all. Now that I’m grown up, I’ll just section off the parts that touched and eat around it.
Every dish on the table needs it own serving spoon & if someone takes a spoon and puts it back in the wrong dish, I can’t eat out of that dish.
I do eat everything one at a time.
The OCD that a few people know about is that I’m a planner and organizer. An ex-BF said I was the female version of Monk (the TV character/show) – - but I’m not a germophobe.
Do you think I have anything to worry about? Or can I get away with saying I’m just quirky?
Hey yes OCD is a mental illness, and in saying that it doesn’t mean you are mental (like crazy) but its just something you are born with. I know someone who has it and they were explained to that in their brain there was a gap like my drawing here…

…wereas the rest of us who don’t have OCD don’t have that gap. They then told her taking medication would kind of make a bridge between those gaps so they wouldn’t do some of their “obsessions”.
From what you have said it does sound a bit like you have OCD, it would pay to go see a doctor and possibly get some medication, because it can get worse and worse until it takes over your entire life, for example some people have a certain routine that they have to do before going to bed at night and if they don’t do it in the correct order they have to start over etc, and also there is people like jack nicholson in as good as it gets (couldn’t stand on cracks etc).
Anyway there is alot of people with OCD so theres nothing to worry about, but if its bothering you or you think it takes up a big part of your life i think it would be a good idea to talk to a doc. All the best!
I want to go digital and replace my big Day Timer planner. Which PDA is right for me?
I am in the market for a PDA to serve as my organizer/planner. I have been using a day timer for eons now, and with my new tech position, I think it is time to step up. The other thing is that my husband and are in the market for a family cell plan, and he says I should get a phone that doubles as a PDA. I just want to keep my to-do lists organized. I don’t need fancy stuff, but if buying an all-in-one that is easy to use is the best, then I will buy the phone that couples as a personal organizer. Any suggestions? I don’t need to surf the net or e-mail or download music, etc. I just want to part ways with my big leather day timer.
On a professional note? I would go either a Window Mobile Device or a Blackberry.
