Now is the Time to Prepare Your Store For Summer When Opening a Dollar Store
Here it is, barely spring. Many are still seeing rain, wind, and chilly temperatures. Most of us long for summer with all the sun, warm temperatures, family gatherings, travel and more. For those who are opening a dollar store spring time signals making preparations for the busier summertime sales, and the holidays that follow as the year comes to an end. It is a time to order dollar store merchandise in preparation for higher summer sales volumes. It is a time to make sure everything is ready for the months ahead. In this article I present some of the most important tasks to be completed.
* Reexamine store hours of operation.
One of the best ways to build dollar store sales during the summer months is to extend your store hours. If there aren’t restrictions in your lease now is the time to target the dates for those hours of operation changes. Make sure you plan to capture early morning and later evening shoppers.
* Service or repair cooling and refrigeration systems.
As your focus goes away from the heating system in your store, it is time to make sure all is in order with the air conditioning systems. That’s right, it may still be approaching freezing for some, but this is the time to check and service your air conditioning. The same goes for any refrigeration systems in your store. Coolers and freezers will be taxed as hotter temperatures move into your area. Make sure all is in order. Don’t risk uncomfortable shoppers and employees, melted candy and thawed foods by failing to make sure all is right before the summer temperatures arrive.
* Add in-demand summer dollar store merchandise well in advance of summer actually arriving. This strategy will reward you with early summer merchandise sales and returning shoppers as summer arrives. Remember to add products for home gardeners, travelers with kids, picnickers, and others who enjoy the out of doors. Summer time toys are another set of products that sell well.
* Make back-to-school sales a hit.
Stock up on back to schools supplies. Have them on display and ready for purchase by mid-summer. You will find a well-stocked back-to-school area can help grow both August and September sales for your business. Be sure to carry back to school dollar store merchandise for all ages.
* Prepare for the holidays.
