Volunteer for Abc Nepal Which Works for Human Right in Nepal
ABC is a human rights organization working for the promotion of women’s and children’s rights, with a special focus on the prevention of violence against women and trafficking in women/children for the purpose of sexual exploitation. ABC was the first organization in Nepal to bring attention to this issue and to work at sensitizing the various segments of society to this gross violation of human rights. They advocate for gender equality by promoting women’s education and economic empowerment and raising awareness about the social and political issues that affect women the most. ABC uses an integrated community development approach to bring about socio-economic improvement to their target group using a grass-roots approach. They also work to sensitize the government and public social issues, such as trafficking of girls for the purpose of prostitution and raise awareness about health concerns such as HIV/AIDS. Despite criminalization, the trade in human lives is increasing at an alarming rate. Today there is preliminary data showing between 5000 – 7000 girls between the ages of 10-20 are trafficked every single year! An estimated 200,000 girls are working as prostitutes in Indian cities and the numbers are rising. This is an enormous problem, and ABC can use volunteers in a variety of different ways to try to improve the lives of these women and children.
Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:-
Depending on the background and skill of the volunteers, jobs range from office assistance/computer training and work with staff, website maintenance, program proposals and funding development. If a volunteer has a background in psychology/counseling they will have an opportunity to work directly with the target group. If they have a medical background they may be able to assist in one of the small community clinics, and if they have an agricultural/handicrafts background, that will be utilized too. Because of the broad spectrum of work that ABC does it is difficult to be specific. Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school.
Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:-
