VBS Check Filter Out the Criminals from the Life of Children and Vulnerable Adults
Children and adults are more vulnerable to crimes and atrocity and they need to be protected against the criminal offense. The much hyped Soham murder case has also raised questions against the safety of adult and children in the society. Sir Michael Bichard, who carried out inquiry about Soham murder case recommended that a register should be maintained for keeping the record of people who have been checked and found to cause any known risk. People who were supposed to work with children and adults need to undergo the Vetting and Barring Scheme checks. The Vetting and Barring Scheme is a checking scheme operated at national level for checking the suitability of those who work with children and vulnerable adults. The previous barring list was replaced by working with children list and working with vulnerable adults list. These two lists are ISA checked rather than by several government departments. ISA check on these two lists are made as a part of an enhanced CRB check.
In VBS check, the social service employers and professionals regulators are given with the responsibility to provide information about any individual who may pose a risk to adult or children. The regulators can pass on the information to the Independent Safeguarding Authority so that the vulnerable group can be identified and dealt with. Volunteers and employees who directly work for children or vulnerable adults without undergoing ISA check and registering with ISA will be considered as committing a crime and might face a fine or imprisonment up to five years. Organizations, which allow volunteers to work with vulnerable group without ISA checking will also be considered as committing an offence. VBS check are executed with the close coordination of the CRB and the ISA. However the VBS check is in testing phase and is quite helpful in decision making. The VBS check is carried out through the ISA checking and after the completion of the VBS check application, companies and organizations can implement the VBS application in their setups and check for its output accuracy.
VBS check is necessary to be carried out especially for some job for which the employee’s criminal convictions are relevant. People working as baby sitters, care taker of vulnerable adults, private tutors of kids, or people working in school etc. need to undergo VBS check to check their suitability for working with children or adults. VBS checks have to be done to ensure that people ready to work for such posts have no criminal convictions and will pose no risk to the children and adults for whom they will work. The ISA check has the power to protect the kids and vulnerable adults from any mis-happening and crimes. VBS checks have to be done to ensure that people ready to work for such posts have no criminal convictions and will pose no risk to the children and adults for whom they will work.
