Everyone is familiar with the expression that a dog is a man’s best friend, but people who have not owned a dog of their own may not understand why. Throughout history, dogs have been constant companions to humans and have served a number of purposes. They have many attributes that make them seem very much like a member of the family and they can easily become the best friend of their owners.
There is actually archeological evidence to suggest that dogs have been companions to human beings for about 14,000 years. In every culture, and even in the bible, there are references to dogs being the protectors of humans and aides in important tasks such as hunting. There have even been graves uncovered in ancient cemeteries where dogs were buried alongside their owners.
One of the reasons that dogs become so closely attached to families is that they are very protective. They have a natural desire to protect their owners which is why, in many cases, they make excellent watch dogs, alerting their owners of intruders. Many breeds of dog are known for their extreme loyalty to the people who take care of them.
Families also love having dogs in the family because they can be easily trained to help with a variety of tasks. Depending on the breed, many dogs are naturally great at assisting their owners with things such as hunting and farming. They can even be trained to do tricks and play games, making them excellent companions for children. With the right attention, almost any dog can be trained to be the perfect companion for its family.
There are many qualities about dogs that make people love them because they seem so much like humans. They are able to understand social hierarchies and have a knack for reading social cues. This is why it always seems like the family dog will lay down and cuddle when their owner is sad or jump up and play when they are in a great mood.
Whether someone is going to be hunting or simply wants a companion to keep them company, a dog can make a great friend. They are very loyal companions and will go out of their way to protect the people they love from danger. In addition to being fierce protectors and excellent helpers in hunting and farming, they are good natured and playful creatures that make great friends for the entire family.
